019 Remote IO controller

The BLS 019 is a remote IO module featuring:

  • Arm Cortex-M3 processor
  • 10/100 Ethernet
  • SD card slot
  • USB slave port
  • 1 RS-485 port
  • 2 CAN bus interfaces
  • 2 Dallas 1-wire bus interfaces
  • 12 digital inputs (contact closure)
  • 12 solid state relay outputs (AC or DC, up to 120V 1A)
  • 2 analog inputs, 20-bit resolution
  • 2 analog outputs, 12-bit resolution

Intended for building automation applications, the 019 may be readily adapted to a variety of uses requiring flexible IO solutions.

Custom software and variations on the IO mix are available. If you are interested in purchasing the 019 or having us develop a similar product, please contact us.

Trap-Alert System

This product was designed and is built by BLS for New Frequency. It is intended to enable animal control professionals to efficiently and humanely monitor the status of animal traps.

The system includes a GPS receiver for tracking the exact geographic location of the trap, and a GSM radio for communicating via the cell network to upload information about the status of the trap – whether it has captured an animal, the level of power remaining in the battery, the traps current location, and signal strength.

To help New Frequency realize their goals for this product; BLS not only developed the electronics but also the physical enclosure and front panel with membrane switches and LEDs.

The BLS “Over Temperature Unit”

Here is an example of one of the products designed and built here at BLS.

The Over Temperature Unit is a multi-point temperature monitoring device, intended as a fail-safe monitor for conveyorized industrial furnaces. It features:

  • 12 inputs capable of monitoring type B, C, E, J, K, R, or S thermocouples.
  • 12 open-collector digital outputs with indicator LEDs.
  • 1 SPDT relay output.
  • 1 Ethernet port with web-based interface.
  • 120 Mhz Cortex3 based microcontroller.
  • Powered by 12-24 VDC.

Depending on the thermocouple type used, the thermocouple inputs are capable of measuring temperatures as high as 2310° C, with a worst-case measurement error of 2.6° C.

Alarm trip-points and thermocouple types are programmed through the web interface or via the front panel buttons (with the use of a thermocouple simulator).

The user manual is available in PDF format here.

Although many of the products we design and build are owned by the customers that commission them, the Over Temperature Unit is wholly owned by BLS. If you are interested in purchasing the Over Temperature Unit or would like to talk about having us engineer a similar product, please contact us.

About our manufacturing facility and equipment

Here is our automated surface mount technology assembly line.

This is our Ekra semi-automatic screen printer, featuring machine vision alignment for accurate alignment of the printed solder paste.

These are our three Assembleon pick-and-place machines, each capable of placing as many as 40,000 components per hour.

Here is our BTU Pyramax seven-zone reflow oven.

This is our Yes Tech X-ray inspection machine. This provides us with the ability to thoroughly inspect solder joints, even in the center of ball-grid array components.

And finally, here is our K.I.S.S. 102 CNC selective solder machine, by ACE Production Technologies. This allows the fast and consistent soldering of through-hole components.
